Tired of aviators or the latest in huge sunglasses or stunna shades? Look no further than the Ray-Ban Wayfarer. *Sunglasses Guy guest post by Zach Segraves*
About Ray-Ban
Ray-Ban is the famous American sunglasses producer and designer that everyone should know. If you don’t then next time you see a pair of “aviators” remember Ray-Ban was the originator. Besides the Aviator, Ray-Ban is most well known for the Wayfarer model. And like the Aviator, the Wayfarer is a timeless piece of American sunglasses style.
Wayfarer History
Originally designed in 1952 for US Navy pilots, the Wayfarer took off when Audrey Hepburn wore them in The Breakfast Club in 1961. The sunglasses were incredibly popular in the 60’s. JFK, Roy Orbison, John Lennon, Bob Dylan, and James Dean each had pair. Do you really need any more proof than that of the Wayfarer’s classic style?

The Wayfarer’s popularity took a hit in the 70’s when everyone was obsessed with bell bottoms and other such things but they came roaring back in the 1980s thanks to Tom Cruise and Risky Business. Sure the Blues Brothers wore them earlier in 1980 but it was Tom Cruise’s “What the fuck” attitude and Ray-Ban’s product placement deal that made them such a hit after 1983’s Risky Business. From here the glasses exploded in popularity and truly became a part of the fashion culture of the 1980s much like they were in the 1960s.

Today’s Wayfarers
Since the 1980s and still today, Ray-Ban has offered several different variations on the original. Some are a little smaller, some are lighter, and they come in various patterns and colors. I’m a purist. Give me the original and although Tom and the Blues Brothers preferred them in black, I’m a dark tortoise shell kinda guy. I like a little more 60s flair.

They’re a comfortable pair of sunglasses and a true American classic. They’re unisex so they look great on everyone (though they look best on me). Check them out–you won’t be disappointed.
